Audre Lorde & Adrienne Rich Lesbian HERStory Archives Marathon Reading

Mo, our head writer facilitated an hour of this amazing event!

Check out the hour here • MP3

The Lesbian Herstory Archives (LHA) is celebrating the lives and contributions of Audre Lorde and Adrienne Rich with a marathon reading of their work. Their work and presence as poets, theorists, activists and teachers inspired decades of anti-racist, feminist, and lesbian feminist thought and activism. We will read from their poetry and essays, as well as Audre Lorde's biomythography, Zami, and Adrienne Rich's autobiographical reflections, Institution of Motherhood. We will have access to their unpublished

papers housed at the Archives, Lorde's lectures and talks, recordings of Lorde and Rich reading their work and together in conversation. In addition, artifacts from their archival collections, including a photo exhibition featuring images of Lorde, will be displayed and passed around. We especially welcome your memories and thoughts on their impact on your own life and work.

This event marks the twentieth anniversary of Audre Lorde's transition to becoming an ancestor and the year of Adrienne Rich's transition/passing. This joint celebration will honor their life-long dialogue on issues that remain critical in our lives.

Items from the life and work of both Lorde and Rich will be on display throughout the day. In addition, light refreshemnets will be served throughout the day.

Suggested donations will be collected at the door ($5-10, more if/less if, no one will be turned away)

"At the event the members of Bklyn Boihood spoke about organizing in a space like Fordham in the wake of the racist and homophobic hate-incidents of last year. By having healthy conversations with student organizers about how to fight the tenants of racism, homophobia and transphobia, student organizers were able to gain tools to help them continue to make Fordham a safer environment.

By approving the BBH event and engaging with student organizers in conversations about the importance of acknowledging queer identities, this administration is showing a great deal of care for its students. Fordham’s queer student organizers are relieved to see that changes which acknowledge their identities may be within reach."

Black (Fe)male Masculinity & Online Media

    Goals for the Caucus

This session will give LGBTQ masculine of center people of color space to define and create what responsible representation of masculinity means and looks like.

Participants will take away tools for successful social-media strategies, branding and messaging.

Questions we'll challenge participants to address:

How will I define my masculinity visually and personally?
How will I hold my representation accountable to the broader community?
How can I recognize and fully engage my POWER?
Which strategies will I implement to represent myself/organizations work online?

About the conference: The ALLIED MEDIA CONFERENCE, based in Detroit, offers hands-on trainings and strategy sessions in a wide-range of media practices.

The AMC is a space for artists and organizers to cross-pollinate ideas and visions, and to develop strategies for network-wide action. Each conference builds off the previous one and plants seeds for the next.
